EPC: A Useful Starting Point for Affiliate Comparisons

Not financial advice. Verify claims independently.

A worked example of earnings per click, reversals, and why traffic quality changes the answer.

Earnings per click (EPC) divides attributed commission by tracked clicks. It helps compare offers only when the time window, traffic source, and payout status are comparable.

Work through a sample

Imagine 1,000 tracked clicks and $180 in approved commissions. EPC is $0.18. If the dashboard also shows $120 pending, report that separately: $0.30 including pending commissions is not the same as settled earnings. These are invented numbers for the calculation.

Compare like with like

Keep newsletter traffic separate from search and paid placements. Use the same attribution window and count refunds or reversals. Small samples can swing sharply, so record the number of clicks alongside the average.

Build a useful ledger

Record the program, source, date range, clicks, approved commission, pending commission, and reversal amount. Add payout dates so a promising dashboard total does not get confused with cash received.

EPC is one input. Audience fit, creative effort, terms, and reader trust still matter. Program scores reflect our own evaluation — verify current terms with each partner.
